Want to know more about my workflow and what to expect as a client?
I’ll give you the nitty-gritty with everything you need to know, whether you’ve had a prior session with me or intend to work with me in the future. I have a pretty specific order of operation:
As a photographer, there are so many different software programs and tools that are available!
Let's start with the basics:
👉🏼 #1 – I love working with my clients (pre-shoot) to coordinate outfits, poses, hairstyles, a theme, and location if necessary. Doing this helps me gain insight into precisely what your goal is for your session! After the contact is made, we will figure out a date and time...then the fun begins! You'll then receive a contract to sign, basically stating that you are allowing me to photograph you and /or other people that may be on site during the session. From there, you'll receive a fun little questionnaire in reference to the type of photoshoot you have chosen - headshot, wedding, boudoir, family, newborn, etc. It has questions to better help me understand the end goal for your session and little tidbits that may help us along the way during our time together. Since I offer many different types of sessions, these questionnaires are very beneficial...plus it helps me remember certain facts about you / your session...cause let's face it, I'm human too and my ADHD gets the best of me!
These simple prep steps allow you to live in the moment and eases unwelcomed stress...it's truly not needed!
👉🏼 #2 – I am a Canon camera gal! I started using Canon back in 2015 and I’ve just kept trying my hand at different Canon cameras until I found the current one that I have and use now: Canon EOS 5DS, with my favorite little lens: the 50mm…but depending on the type of session I am shooting this may be switched out for other lenses.
👉🏼 #3 – I use off-camera lighting only when necessary. I prefer natural lighting. However, natural lighting is not always an option depending on the session (inside or out), plus, we all know that Mother Nature in Indiana is a little bipolar! Sooooo, in the instance that I use additional lighting, I have some beautiful LED Neewer lights. These little lights are great for diversity in photo styles, such as bright and airy or dark and moody! AND MY FAVORITE PART: they have a battery option, which makes it cordless and easy to transport from room to room or to bring to a client's home. Additionally, I have RBG lights that can be used for fun and creative vibes.
👉🏼 #4 – After the session, I upload my images to my computer and back them up to multiple different drives. After the images are uploaded and safely backed up, I very carefully sort through every image, picking only the very best images. Next, those picked images get a watermark and then uploaded to Pixieset with a password, all clients receive an email or text with link and info. There are no 2 passwords that are the same or ever reused! You'll then be able to view, download, and pick your favorite image.There is even a section to make comments on your images, in case you wanted a specific edit done e.g remove acne, enhance eyes, whiten teeth, etc. Once you pick your favorite images, the real fun begins for me, editing!
👉🏼 #5 – I begin my editing in Lightroom and finish with Photoshop. This is not always a quick process; this is where most of my time goes after a shoot. Depending on the type of session: cake smash, newborn or family session, boudoir, etc. will depend on the length of time that it takes to edit and deliver the finished product. The timeline from the end of your photoshoot to delivery of images or product is communicated.
👉🏼 #6 – After I'm done editing, the final images are uploaded to your file on Pixieset. You will then be to download, print, and share your images. And keep them forever!
👉🏼 #7 – Once you receive your final images, you will assume that all is done and over. Right? Guess again! I always check in and like to make sure that there weren't any issues with downloading and printing your image. Or, if additional products are purchased, I like to ensure that everything is tailored to your liking! Remember the fun questionnaire that was mentioned in #1? Well, there's a post questionnaire! As mentioned before for the pre-shoot, this is really helpful. It helps me make sure that everything went according to your plan, not just mine!
Now you have a little insight of what to expect... and the heart, time, and effort that goes into your photoshoot and gallery!
I will always discuss this with clients in person, after a session is complete. I've been told I'm a professional yapper, so I'm happy to talk and answer any questions - any time! Having this knowledge is pretty handy and helps clients understand the why's, what's, how's, and when's with the unknown.
Did I mention you will also get sneak peeks? That's one of my favorite parts because I know anticipation gets the best of us!
Everything that happens from inquiry to post-session, you can see that there is a great amount of effort that goes into creating and preserving the perfect moment!
